Jess Braun Bio
Jess is a Dream Rock Songstress originally from Richmond, Virginia. After paying her dues in the New York City club scene for the past decade, she's recently finished recording her first solo project -- waveside -- an album of 7 indie pop/rock songs. She just completed her first tour to promote the album, from New York to California. Jess is presently living in Northern California, working on a second album, and performing.
A true water nymph, Jess has spent about a quarter of her existence in some form of H20, swimming, surfing, and mermaiding, and finds the water to be a strong source of inspiration for her writing and general sanity.
Jess Braun's voice has been compared to the sounds of Fiona Apple, Janis Joplin, Neko Case, and Joss Stone.
Her influences include (but are certainly not limited to) Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Ray Charles, Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, Joni Mitchell, Joan Osborne, Eryka Badu, Jim Croce, and Elvis Presley.
“Jessica Braun is a vocal powerhouse. She has the sort of voice that can rise above the maelstrom of guitar, bass, and drums in the noisiest club and be heard.” (Wildy’s World)
“Jessica is dripping with sexy overtones and feeling on every song” (Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck, MuzikReviews)
“…the mistress of sultry suggestion that is Jessica Braun howls “I’ve got soul” and soul she has. Lungs, lips and lyrics combine to give our crossover of The Long Blonde’s Kate Jackson and a banshee the command to control a collection of songs that imply passion, heart, dedication, and togetherness…” (Jack Murray, Glasswerk National)
